Purchase of IT Hardware

Decision Maker: Strategic Director for Resources

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

There are a number of areas of the Council where a further investment is needed in update hardware. The requirement is based on the following L

- Windows 7 going out of support and needed to be upgraded
- Current hardware being old and need of replacement
- Service areas wishing to adopt remote and agile working and needing laptops to change working practices

Planning is an area with older hardware and limited remote working. It is proposed to purchase hardware from the IT Capital Program 18/19. This will allow us to ensure that we are upgrading from older operating systems, providing adequate equipment for staff to use and to support service delivery and new ways of working.

Decision:

Cabinet authorised the Director for Resources to allocate the IT capital allocation of £150,000 this decision seek to draw down from this capital fund.

Alternative options considered:

Option 1 - Avoid the replacement of existing hardware and seek to make hardware last longer. This raises the risk of failing IT hardware and unsupported software
