Revision of the Council’s Housing Allocation Policy

Decision Maker: Strategic Director for Places

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

To amend the Council’s Housing Allocation Policy following a consultation on proposed changes, in which seven responses were received.

- To implement changes due to the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
- To take account of new statutory guidance on housing and the Armed
- Forces community issues in June 2020.
- To respond to issues raised in the consultation, summarised in Appendix
- A (Housing Allocation Policy (Lettings) Consultation).
- To take the opportunity to make minor updates and correct typos

Decision:

To approve the changes incorporated into Appendix B, Housing Allocation Policy.

Alternative options considered:

The Housing Allocation Policy could remain unchanged, but the opportunity for it to fit better with the Homelessness Reduction Act, the new statutory guidance on the Armed Forces and housing and to simplify the rural housing requirements would have been lost.

The decision could have been made not to make minor corrections and updates, but this would have impacted on the functionality and clarity of the Housing Allocation Policy.

More substantial changes to the Housing Allocation Policy could have been made, but these are not believed to be necessary and could have added further complication
