RECORD OF MEETING

To confirm the minutes of the meeting of the Rutland SACRE held on 8 October 2019 (previously circulated).

Minutes:

The record of the meeting of the Rutland Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) held on 8 October 2019 were confirmed as a correct record and signed by the Chair.

DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2020-2022 pdf icon PDF 62 KB

For members to review the Development Plan 2020-2022.

Minutes:

During discussion the following points were noted:

 

      i.        There was a need to get teachers engaged with the importance and relevance of the RE curriculum.

    ii.        Local Authority schools Voluntary Controlled schools were required to use the Agreed Syllabus. Academies are required to use a syllabus, and are advised to use the Agreed Syllabus.

   iii.        It was suggested that a leaflet could be sent to schools providing information regarding the new Ofsted framework and what is expected of the schools.

   iv.        Rutland SACRE would produce recommendations that could be sent to NASACRE based on the recommendations from the Commission on RE Report.

    v.        It was suggested that the development plan could be taken to the Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee for comment.

   vi.        Wales were looking to remove the right to withdraw students from Religious Education.

  vii.        Specific dates should be included to give Rutland SACRE a deadline to work to.

viii.        It was suggested that a survey could be sent out to schools to gain an insight as to how RE is taught in schools.

RE AND READING HOW SACRE CAN ASSIST

Amanda Fitton to lead discussion.

Minutes:

Mrs Fitton asked that members gather a list of books that can be recommended for children to read that can help in religious education.

RUTLAND SACRE ANNUAL REPORT 2019/20

For members to discuss the Annual Report covering 2019-20.

Minutes:

Items to include in the Annual Report:

 

·         Chair’s introduction

·         Purpose of the report

·         Thanks to those on SACRE and those that have left

·         Overview of the network meetings

·         Links to Ofsted reports

·         Exam results

 

Further discussion on the items would take place at the next SACRE meeting.

ANY URGENT BUSINESS

Minutes:

The new Diocese of Peterborough RE Syllabus

 

      i.        Schools may need to be reminded if they were using the syllabus, they need to personalise it for their own school.

    ii.        If the school was a local authority school or voluntary controlled, they needed to be using the Agreed Syllabus.

   iii.        There was no online version of the syllabus
